In March, I had the opportunity to do creative workshops at the Centro Comunitário da Paróquia de Carcavelos. I have worked in separate moments with children aged 11 to 13 and with elderly people aged 65 and over.
In both groups, it was interesting to see how each participant had an inner world with them, and how this transpires in the approach to creativity and in its achievements.
My approach towards them was to try to be a playmate rather than a teacher.
It was really important to set the workshops as a game rather than a lesson, and from these moments and from others that I lived in this volunteer experience, I realized that "playing" is an excellent tool. for teaching, to give light but rich teaching, to make you live a pleasant, smiling and positive creative experience.
In the workshops moments of pure laughter, jokes, invented and absurd stories were born and this made us feel the strength and power of creativity.
With the children in each session I asked them to guess some keywords on creativity, which we would then deal with during the same day: INFINITY, FREEDOM, FANTASY, TRANSFORMATION, BOREDOM, etc ... The wonderful thing is that the more you work with the creativity the more you understand its strength and its vastness! When you play with creativity you continually learn from each other and this is what I find fantastic!
We played with various tools, including words and stories, with our identity and our imagination, leaving us total freedom and trying to play with the absurd !!
